BADENWEILER
Badenweiler is idyllically situated in the heart of the Markgräflerland and in the southern Black Forest, at 422 m above sea level. Thanks to its mild climate and good air, the town has been awarded the title of “spa”. In its famous Cassiopeia thermal baths, the rich thermal water from the springs here is used for a variety of treatments. Badenweiler’s history dates back to ancient times: it was settled by the Romans between 70 and 260 AD, who also discovered the healing springs here. This gave rise to the name “Aquae Villae”, loosely translated as “City of Water”. The remains and ruins of the Roman baths can be seen in the spa gardens – evidence of almost 2000 years of history as a health resort.
Today, Badenweiler and its charming rural districts of Lipburg, Sehringen and Schweighof have a population of just under 4,500. The 22-hectare spa park, laid out more than 250 years ago in the style of an English park, is one of the most tree-rich parks in the country and invites you to take wonderful walks. From various vantage points, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the Markgräflerland and the Rhine plain as far as the Vosges mountains, and Switzerland and Alsace are also within sight.
