HISTORY & TRADITION

In 1967, the former Hotel-Pension “Siesta” with an area of 6000 square meters was acquired by the Mast-Bareiss family, who ran today’s Hotel Schwarzmatt as a sister hotel to the Hotel Bareiss in Baiersbronn. This year also saw the birth of son Jörg. Mrs. Heidemarie Bareiss initially ran the small guesthouse on her own and also ran the kitchen. Mr. Gerhard Mast was a graduate engineer for aircraft construction and was still working in his profession in the early days of the “Siesta”, but then came to Badenweiler to support his young wife.

In 2005, the main building was extended to accommodate the new “Sano e Salvo” sauna and wellness facility. Jakob Martin Mast was born in December 2007 and his sister Anna-Lena Mast in February 2011. 2013 marked the anniversary of “Forty years of Schwarzmatt – 1973 – 2013”. Just in time for the anniversary year, the entrance hall with reception, lobby and restaurant was redesigned and the kitchen was completely rebuilt and expanded with an extension. In 2015, the wellness area was given a refresh with bright, friendly colors and a tailor-made lounge. Eight bathrooms were modernized at the same time. In 2018, the hotel lobby was redesigned in a modern country house design. The lockdown in spring 2020 was used to replace the woodwork on the façade, balconies and roof at the front of the Schwarzmatt. Since March 2025, the traditional hotel has been part of the renowned Privathotels Dr. Lohbeck with a total of 32 locations in Germany, Austria and Florida (USA).
