THE REGION AROUND THE SCHWARZMATT

“O Black Forest, O homeland, how beautiful you are!
How your black and dark heights lure the heart
For cheerful hiking in midsummer,
To rest in secret solitude,
In the cozy Mühlgrund, by the sound of springs:
O Black Forest, O homeland, how beautiful you are!”

Ludwig Auerbach (German merchant and poet, 1840 – 1882)

In the sunny southwest of Germany, between the Upper Rhine and the southern Black Forest, lies the Markgräflerland region, blessed with beautiful nature and a mild climate. The combination of numerous hours of sunshine, Baden hospitality, good cuisine and the sun-drenched wines of the region make this “little garden of paradise” so charming and attractive. One of the oldest wines in the world has its main cultivation area here – the Gutedel, a white wine with a delicate aroma and pleasant character.
The good location in the so-called “border triangle” of Switzerland – France – Germany offers you an ideal starting point for numerous excursions and activities. The nearest major cities are Freiburg (Germany), Basel (Switzerland) and Strasbourg / Colmar (France), and the northern Black Forest with its impressive coniferous forests is not far away.
